Precision Cutting Foundations
Master the fundamentals of cutting with our hands-on programme. Get certified, build your confidence and start your career as a professional stylist.

Course overview
Our aim goes further than teaching you to hold a pair of shears. This programme is built to make you confident in front of a real head of hair, on a real salon floor, with a real person in the chair who has told you what they want.
You will learn sectioning, elevation and over-direction as a system rather than a set of tricks, then practise until the shapes hold up under a blow-dry, a wash and a fortnight of ordinary life. Every session is taught on live models by artisans who still work behind the chair.
What you will learn
- Reading head shape, growth patterns and density before you cut
- Sectioning and elevation as a repeatable system
- One-length, graduated and layered shapes
- Dry refinement and personalising a cut to the face
- Consultation language that gets to what a guest actually wants
- Shear and razor maintenance, posture and pacing
Who this is for
- Career changers starting out in hair
- Assistants ready to move to the floor
- Self-taught stylists who want a formal foundation
- Anyone preparing for salon employment or a chair rental
Before you start
- No previous salon experience needed
- Aged 18 or over
- Able to attend two weekday sessions each week
- Comfortable working closely with members of the public
You leave with more than a certificate
Every graduate finishes with a photographed portfolio of their own work, an assessment record signed by their tutor, and an introduction to the salons in our partner network.
